DECEITFUL WAR!! Google declares war on coders’ free time!
Finally, this year I might have the time and sleep to actually do the Google Code Jam (hoping my kids are now old enough not to wake me at random times).
You need 25 points to move on.
I got the first problem A. Magic Trick pretty easy, that’s a gimme I think. 6 points
I lost most of my pictures in the transition over, but the new home is (basically) free with my MSDN Azure credits.
One reason I lost more pictures than I otherwise would have was that I originally was using an Azure Website service (which automagically uses cleardb). Cleardb, however, then charges alot of money per month to use it’s My [...]
This is why the better science today is actually being done in industry, rather than Academia.
This is my reaction to a recent review of a paper that I saw – my tangential rant was at the end, but I’ll put it first here…
‘Peer review’ is so broken and silly. Interestingly I’m noticing BETT [...]
For some reason, after finishing all the Project Euler problems (projecteuler.net) – my account was locked. When I asked about why, the admin who locked the account said I answered too many questions in too short of time.
I would get the questions and do them offline, and then I would input multiple solutions at once. It’s not lik [...]
Thanks to the summer hiatus on Project Euler problem creation, I was able to catch back up!
Still lacking a ‘Gold medal’, but I’ve never even started a problem before at least one person had already solved it. Maybe I will try to be ready right when a problem is posted some time.
I thought I would brush up on my Pytho [...]
I have 3 boys – 2, 4, and 6 years old. I went to school (alot of it, too much of it), so hearing the doom and gloom stories of increasing college expenses, I thought I would check out what the ‘experts’ say that I should expect to be paying and saving in the coming decades.
The average annual expense now: Ivy Le [...]

Pretty easy to pass the qualifier, I did the first problem – Tic-Tac-Toe-Tomek -. I did the small and large inputs, so I guess that alone would qualify me because it’s 10 and 30 points; and all you need is 35 I think. But who knows, maybe I made a mistake with the large input (which doesn’t get checked until [...]
Just thought I’d post this up, since I was always wondering/searching the internet for timelines and things that were/weren’t normal. Who knows if our experiences were actually normal, but here is what it was:
OUR FIRST HOME
~10/19/2012 – Decided to start actually going to look at houses, so that we could get a feel for what [...]
This error has vexed me for awhile now.
Bug 1489 on their site. https://bugs.gpodder.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1489
One fix I was using for awhile was to reboot in safe mode and run gpodder to update my podcasts
Luckily someone came up with a way to get gpodder to run from the command line after resetting the PATH.
I don’t buy the arguments against congressional term limits.
The big one is that if representatives know they don’t need to get re-elected then they won’t care about what their voters think and thus will not represent their electorate…
umm, they don’t currently care a great deal about their electorate except fo [...]
